The cost of intensive, long-term support for a family with complex multiple problems is around £250,000 a year (2011).
The social and financial consequences of not supporting them, however, are greater still.
“We estimate that our work saves the state £15 for every £1 invested in us.”
Without specialised, professional support, families are at far greater risk of breaking-up, becoming involved with social services and/or the criminal justice system, claiming benefits, committing crime, problems with physical or mental health, dropping out of education, work or training.
BARCA-Leeds interacts with around 1,000 people every week, or around 500 families a year. Some of this work is intensive and long-term. Some is less intensive and short-term. Overall, though, we estimate that our work saves the state £15 for every £1 invested in us.*
